The first episode of The Musician’s Guide is an interview with our host, Karen Cubides. CEO of Cubides Artist Services with a background in life and business coaching, Karen’s mission is to use a well-rounded and holistic approach to take musical artist’s careers to the next level. Today she is interviewed by her podcasting team, Addison Smith and Kristi Monte, and discusses her home life, marriage, their two French Bulldogs, and her vision for the podcast.
Karen grew up in Miami, FL in a Spanish-speaking traditional Colombian home with two entrepreneurial parents and a brilliant sister, Jen. “It was so amazing to grow up in an encouraging household, see my parents live the American dream and establish a strong work ethic from a very young age.” At 15, Karen went to boarding school at Interlochen in Michigan and worked through some cultural barriers, which she hilariously recounts.
At minute 6:36, she discusses how she met her husband Nick Lauffer, touring trombonist with country artist Toby Keith, and what it is like to work with him as the Chief Operating Officer of Cubides Artist Services. It has been an adjustment to balance being Nick’s wife and his manager, knowing when to shut work off for the day and enjoy their two French Bulldogs, Aldo and Reina.
In regards to what to expect when listening to the Musician’s Guide, Karen is excited to share her own health, wealth, and personal development journey. She will be interviewing her chiropractors to share their insights on a holistic approach to being healthy while performing, as well as those who have built non-profits and multi-million dollar organizations in the music industry. Her mission is to raise greater awareness on sensitive topics for artists, such as financial security and mental health.
